Spoiling Yourself: Rent Convertible Cars

by Jared Lermeo

There’s nothing more exciting than driving a fun, sporty convertible down a long stretch of road, the wind in your hair. We can’t all afford to own and maintain a beautiful sports care of our own, of course, but we can hire one! Renting the convertible of your dreams for your next holiday can help you make your fantasies come true – here are a few tips to help.

Sports car hire has been around since about the middle of the last century, but it wasn’t always easy, with few models available at a high price. The good news is that this isn’t really true anymore. There are plenty of great companies out there that offer large inventories and know all about the cars they have available.

Renting your own sports care is also much less expensive than it used to be, and a significantly easier process. Almost anyone can afford a little piece of their “convertible dream”. It doesn’t take long, you can make your reservation online if you like, and there’s next to no hassle to deal with.

Remember to pick a specialty rental firm that knows its convertibles for the best experience, and check over the company’s selection before you choose. You should have lots of convertibles to choose from! make sure you’re comfortable with the car’s general safety record and security profile, and that it has all the features you want. Ever wanted to try out a GPS? Now’s your chance.

There are some things everyone should know in advance when renting a sports car, like insurance requirements. Make sure you check up with your auto insurance company to find out how much coverage you already have for a rental car. Be sure to ask if your coverage extends to sports cars, too – sometimes there are different rules for them than for a sedan.

Most rental companies have some pretty strict rules about insurance, so knowing what your existing coverage is can help you save money. Check out the contract and insurance policies that are offered to you, and buy additional insurance from the rental company if necessary. Make sure you know about hidden charges that might apply, so you don’t get any nasty surprises.

Remember that you may have trouble renting a sports care if you’re not old enough – generally twenty-five in most countries. Sometimes, the company will be willing to rent a car to you if you’re willing to pay a fee to have the age requirement waived, but don’t bet on it. You may also end up having to pay more in insurance if you’re not old enough to meet the age rules.

How will you be paying? Credit cards are the standard method, but if you’d prefer to pay another way, expect to have to leave a cash deposit, the value of which will vary according to the car you’re renting. It’s worth it to have the time of your life in a great convertible, however!
